Xpand Biotechnology BV’s cutting edge technology will allow for a totally new approach to the regeneration of diseased or damaged tissues. It will enable surgeons to repair bone, cartilage and heart muscle in an everyday hospital setting by using Xpands unique stand-alone, simple-to-operate bioreactor system.

Xpand has designed its advanced bioreactor system to bring the clinical application of expanded patient-own bone marrow derived adult stem cells within reach of the practising physician.

Xpand Biotechnology BV is a Dutch life sciences company that develops an innovative platform technology based on an automated, closed bioreactor system to expand adult mesenchymal stem cells derived from eg. bone marrow. This expansion system is stand-alone, simple-to-operate and does not require a complex laboratory environment. It can be placed within any hospital department, and is able to generate over 200 million expanded adult stem cells from a single bone marrow aspirate within 3 weeks. Adult stem cells can be used in regenerative medicine to treat various tissue disorders (such as bone and cartilage defects, cardiovascular disease and central neural system disorders) and as a screening platform for the discovery of new drugs, small molecules and genes.

Mission statement

The mission of Xpand Biotechnology BV is to develop innovative technologies based on adult stem cells and appropriate scaffolds for the regeneration, reconstruction or augmentation of defected tissues and organs. In addition to the development of a bioreactor system to expand stem cells, Xpand also develops a unique range of synthetic osteoinductive biomaterial scaffolds.
